
Emmy Award winning documentary producer Jennifer Boyd, is owner of Boyd Productions, LLC. For 21 years, Jennifer has been producing, directing and writing award-winning documentaries for television and non-profit organizations. Her projects have taken her across the United States and to countries such as the Czech Republic, Kenya, Haiti, El Salvador, Nicaragua and Nigeria.
Over the past seven years, Jennifer has produced 6 documentaries that have been distributed internationally through the PBS distribution system (PBS Plus). She has also produced 12 energy related documentaries, as well as numerous other projects. Her most recent project, The Warming of Connecticut, produced for Connecticut Public Television, is being used as a tool to help communities discuss climate change action across the state.
Jennifer’s current projects in production and/or development include Parents: Behind the Wheel, a follow-up to the Emmy Award winning, internationally distributed Teens: Behind the Wheel, a ten part This Old House “green” series (title to be determined) and Critical Condition-Focus on Connecticut, a documentary and town meeting which will follow the airing of the POV healthcare special Critical Condition in April 2008.
In the documentary Teens: Behind the Wheel, independently controlled cameras were used to monitor teen driving behavior for six months. Sections of the documentary have been shown on Good Morning America, Dateline, ABC World News Tonight and MSNBC, as well as numerous local news stations across the country. The documentary has also been written about in the New York Times, Providence Journal, Hartford Courant and other newspapers across the country. Teens: Behind the Wheel is currently airing on PBS stations nationwide, and a part 2 is in production.
In 2003, Jennifer produced, directed and wrote several documentaries, including the Emmy Award winning Wall of Fire. This half hour documentary explores fire safety through the eyes of fire fighters, survivors, investigators and child arsonists. The program aired on PBS stations nationwide.
Also in 2003, Jennifer received a second Emmy Award for her 5-part series Connecticut’s Energy Future. This Connecticut Public Television series focused on energy issues facing the state and the nation, and examined renewable energy options for the future. The series was hosted by well-known actor Ed Asner.
Prior to Connecticut’s Energy Future, Jennifer produced, directed and wrote three other documentaries that were distributed nationally through PBS; Understanding the Divide, Seniors: Behind the Wheel, and Kids and Cars: Before the Crash. Understanding the Divide openly discussed deep-rooted prejudices, and explored race, religion, sexual orientation and culture as sources of division. Seniors explored the emotional and complex issues surrounding senior driving from the perspective of the senior, as well as adult family members. Kids and Cars examined the causes of childhood injury and loss of life associated with motor vehicles, and offered solutions to end staggering statistics.
Jennifer has also produced and directed nightly news, public affairs, sports and entertainment programming. She has also created fundraising and educational documentaries for such clients as the Peace Corps, US Department of Justice, TechnoServe, and the International Fund for Animal Welfare. Her corporate clients include Otis Elevator, Pratt and Whitney and the Foxwoods Resorts and Casino.
Jennifer graduated cum laude from the S.I. Newhouse School of Communications at Syracuse University. She lives with her husband and two children in West Hartford, Connecticut.
